Dang it! I don't know why my Discover card friends won't let me pretend to be blissfully unaware of impending doom. They are all blogging about it and I am superstitious so I was really trying to avoid blogging about it, or even mentioning it for that matter. But since they have gone public, I will join them and hope that they didn't jinx all of us.
It is true. Discover card is laying off 500 people in May. I wish I just got zero happy and accidentally posted 500, but no, 500 people are losing their jobs. I am trying to be positive and just hope for the best. No good can possibly come from freaking out, right? But the sit and wait game sucks!
Some moments I am confident. Seth is a "rockstar". Those are his Director's words, not mine. He has been promoted 4 times in the last 4 years. Yeah, I am totally bragging, get over it! Seth busts his butt and makes doors open for him.
So he is invincible, right? Of course not. We have no idea which jobs will go. And since he has been promoted a lot he is one of the newer ones in his department.
So what happens next is anyone's guess.
One thing that I am certain of is that our Heavenly Father has watched over us. He will still watch over us. If this door closes another will open. Maybe it won't be the most ornate door, maybe it won't open as quickly as we hope, but there will be a door. There always is.
So, if our world gets turned upside down and I am acting like a nightmarish lunatic, remind me that I said that and that I believe it.
Everyone is telling Seth not to worry so we are definitely hopeful but if luck does not favor us this time we still have each other. This economy may have the power to steal our jobs, our retirement and our homes, but it can't take our families. Even if we can't afford to vacation we can still afford to love and that gives me comfort.
What scares me though is that even though I don't need money to love my kids, I do need money to feed them. So my prayer is that our job will be safe. But my prayer is also with all those who will not be so fortunate.

Sorry I brought it up Julie! You are totally right about everything though. I just figured we could use all the prayers we could get! Ryan does think Seth is safe though, for what its worth! But we will still be praying for you as well! Keep the faith, your great.

This sucks! I am so sorry to hear about that. When in May, do you know? We will definitely pray for you and for everyone in the company.
I admire your faith it is going to be a rock for your family no matter what happens.

I honestly am pretty calm about it though. I'm not sure why but I guess I feel like if it's going to happen it will happen and I don't need to stress about it until it does and even then... we'd figure something out.
It is scary but hopefully we'll all be okay!
We're praying for all the Discover families, but try not to worry!! Remember, Seth's got game! :o)

Ahh, you're safe. You just got put in as primary pres. You've got another good 2 years there. I forgot that you guys are in the financial sector, that's rough, sorry for all of your stress. We're praying for you!
It is too sad that so many families will go through that. I pray that it won't happen to you guys, and I really don't think it will. I am not too worried because I know Seth will find a way to take care of you guys no matter what.

We find out by the middle of May, so we don't have a specific date. Frustrating... but luckily Jeff, Valerie, Kristen and Luke are coming out for a visit next week so that should distract me.
