Day Thirteen- A Letter to Someone Who Hurt You Recently
Dear Lakeview Recplex,
I have three crying children today. After plunking down a substantial chunk of change to patronize your establishment for the next year, my kids were SO excited to have a place to swim during this chilly Spring Break. They were in swimsuits at 8:00 this morning, waiting for your 1PM Open Swim to start. We rushed in this afternoon to find the pool empty. For a moment we couldn't believe our luck...we had the WHOLE place to ourselves. And then we noticed that the slides were eerily quiet, no water streaming down waiting to carry happy children to the pool beneath. No lifeguards and no lights. Just a dark and empty pool. The lady at the front desk explained, in a somewhat snarky tone, that not everyone has the same Spring Break as we do and that lots of the lifeguards are in school which makes it impossible to staff the pool. I get it, but I don't understand why you advertised that Spring Break hours would be from 1pm-9pm. A man in a suit came over and assured me that you will do your best to get lifeguards in and get the pool open for the rest of the week, but that I should call before showing up. I ended up feeling like the fool for even being there. Maybe just an apology would do fine next time.
See you tomorrow....don't worry I'll call first.
Julie
Okay friends....I felt kind of dumb answering this question when I see the horrendous headlines from Japan. I know that the pool being closed is NOTHING, but since I couldn't think of anyone else to write this letter to, I decided to turn the experience into an opportunity to fulfill my challenge assignment. Yes, my kids cried, but we get that this is no big deal. Even the snarky lady. I am sure she was just SICK of moms reminding her that they were supposed to be open. I am sure not all of them were nice. We will probably just go back this evening for their regular swim hours. So don't throw stones....I am not really mailing this letter and I am not really hurt. It was mildly irritating, nothing more. If anything, maybe I should write them a thank you letter for helping me get past this question.

I like it. I did mine to Walmart because no one has hurt me recently and I can't imagine writing a letter to someone who really hurt me publicly. I think you are right- it is just a creative way to get past the day of the challenge.
Plus, even though our little challenges and annoyances are little compared to what people in Japan are going through right now and what so many people go through on a daily basis... it still is disapointing to get your heart set on something and then not have it work out. Especially when you are a kid.
Did you work out yet?? Kristen and I were just saying how fun it would be to take you to the gym with us because we know you would be in full "Poindexter" mode...haha!
Cheryl, I didn't like this question. I agree that even if I was mad at someone I think that would be mean spirited to write them a letter, especially publicly. And I agree that it is okay to be disappointed, but I didn't want anyone to think I was really bent out of shape about this whole thing. It was just one of those things where you say Oh Man...and then get over it.
Val, NO I have not worked out yet, but now I will be even more self-conscious and wondering if I am being a Poindexter. Ha,Ha!
That is really annoying! I totally would have been ticked off, too, if they had advertised for "SPRING BREAK" hours. Hello, ALL the elementary schools in Kenosha had spring break last week! Don't advertise for SPRING BREAK if you don't want a bunch of pissy moms with their screaming kids expecting to swim during SPRING BREAK.
Of course, I agree that there are other more dire things going on in the world, but this is our world.
My SIL had a letter sent to her anonymously to point out all of her faults and the things this person didn't like about her. All it accomplished was hurt feelings and realizing how stupid and cowardly this person was to think that sending a letter anonymously to a person to list all the bad things about them will accomplish anything. People need to have the guts to discuss their issues with a person face-to-face if they really expect to see changes.
I, too, would have done what you did Julie and chosen a business to write a letter to because it would be mean-spirited to target a person to publicly write a letter to them on a blog. Hence, this is one of the reasons I sometimes hate the internet and all the hurt it has caused so many people by being publicly humiliated (whether self-inflicted or by other people).
