It's Official, We're Cheeseheads

On the way home we detoured, just slightly, to make a stop in Green Bay. Green Bay is the bay at the base of the peninsula, and of course, the home of the Green Bay Packers.

We are football people, and since neither of us grew up with a team, we have adopted the Green Bay Packers as our team. It is fun to have "our team" because in every other sport me and Seth have different favorites.

Since we were in the general area, we wanted to stop and see Lambeau Field. They usually do tours. We were excited to go see the field where they play, but it was Family Night. We got there at about noon. The parking lot was filling up and every one was tailgating. We went to Guest Relations to find out what exactly was going on. The team was playing an exhibition game that night at 7:30. It was only $10 a person (with proceeds going to charity), to make it affordable for families to come and watch together. Plus, it is on a Saturday so we could actually go and not miss church. And perhaps most importantly, it is in the summer so we wouldn't freeze. We were tempted to stay for the game, but we wouldn't have gotten home until 2:00 AM and we still had lessons to plan for church. We did spend a couple hours just hanging out with the tailgaters though.

There were rock walls, bungee trampolines, bounce houses, tatoos, aerialists performing, and all kinds of games, including our new favorite local find, cornhole. They even had a sign painting station where you could make a sign to hold up at the game. We didn't get to all of it since we still had a drive ahead of us, but we did get to play a little bit. It was all free, except for food, which was super cheap. $1 an item. Even if you didn't have tickets you could play for free, and even watch the game in the parking lot on the big screen. I was seriously so impressed with the whole thing, and we are for sure planning better next year and going to the game. It was such a fun little event to stumble upon.

The only thing that bummed us out, is that on game day they don't let anyone go out to the field until the game. We really wanted to see the field, but I think the kids had more fun tailgating, and going to the Pro Shop. Alex wants to live in his new Packers shirt. He says his favorite teams are his green team (Packers) and his red team (USC). He knows very little about football, but he has jerseys from those teams and loves to wear their gear. He did want to play football in the parking lot with Seth when he saw the other tailgaters throwing the ball around. He even had a football with him in his backpack, so I think we might just be planting those football seeds.

I am so glad we stopped, and I can't wait to go back.
