Chop, Chop

Alyssa has refused to let me touch her hair this summer. She has also taken to chewing on it at all times. Even she is bugged by the chewing. I heard her telling Alex not to ever grow his hair long or he would get addicted to chewing on it. On Sundays she lets me at least scrape a comb through it, and I don't know who is closer to tears, her or me. It feels like cotton candy, and I am not lying when I tell you that it was turning in to dread locks in the back.

I love long hair on little girls and I have almost always kept her hair long, with the exception of the one time she cut it herself. Here is a little bonus flashback.

In case you are wondering, I DO watch my kids, despite the vitamin overdoses and self made mullets that you see featured here.

She cut the bangs SO short and I do not like bangs, especially with a little bob. She looked like the dutch boy, so I had to use a barrette or these funny ponytails that were way too far forward.

They looked like little puppy dog ears, but they grew on me.

Even though I liked Alyssa's little bob, I immediately started growing it back and have never had it short again, at least not very short. But the cotton candy dread locks finally got the better of me, and I started campaigning to cut her hair. She refused and refused and refused, all while chewing on her hair. Today she said she wanted to get a haircut on the way to the library. I was happy to make the detour. When we arrived she told the stylist she wanted it past her shoulders. I nodded to the contrary from behind Alyssa, where only the hair stylist could see me. Apparently she saw the desperation in my eyes and told Alyssa she thought it would look healthier and shinier and just perfect in a little chin length bob. Once she heard it from someone else, she gave the go ahead, and it was off with the locks.

I am not crazy about her looking older, but her hair is so silky and shiny and thick. And now neither one of us will have to cry about hair brushing when school starts.

Alex loves Alyssa's new look and called her pretty every 2 minutes until she finally told him that the message had been received. Alyssa loves it too and insisted that I get pictures up on to the blog immediately. So here they are.

I think she looks like my brother Michael in this picture. I actually see Michael in her a lot lately.

It is going to be so easy to fix...maybe a little barrette...two second hairstyle.

I love little stump piggytails, but the back is not quite long enough to go up. It is about an inch long. Soon enough we will be able to scrape up some better stumpies.

And remember all that talk about learning to french braid. Well, I am still going to try to learn, only on a much smaller scale. Which, as it turn out, is much harder.
