Let's start with the pre-Tennessee Easter festivities. Of course I planned to do lots of fun activities with the kids before our trip, because I knew that once we arrived in TN, I would have to relinquish them to their cousins for the remainder of the holiday season. The week we left turned out to be a busy one so we didn't do much, but we did manage to find time to paint cookies.
And make string Easter eggs. I tried to loosely tie this to the Resurrection. The balloon was trapped inside the string tomb with no way out, unless we popped it. We compared this to the miraculous rising of the Savior from the tomb. Is that reaching way too far? Maybe. We usually do resurrection eggs and never got to it this year so I had to scramble for a way to focus on the resurrection.
Alyssa's egg did not have as much glue as Alex's so it was a bit fragile and when Chloe stomped it the minute we were done, it could not take the blow.
We opened Easter mail.
Even I got something...thanks Easter Bunny!
And I attempted my first ever french braid. I read on Kory's blog that she was learning to french braid. I have wanted to learn but everyone I know who french braids has known how forever, so I thought it was a skill you were born with. But Kory inspired me to try, and I did. They are not ready to wear out, especially with those loose loops at the bottom, but we will practice and succeed.
Then on Thursday, school let out and we hit the road for Tennessee.

I've known how to french braid forever but Abi's are rarely perfect.I think yours look great!
Alyssa's hair looks so cute. I can't believe that was your first try. I've been trying and trying to master the fine art of french braiding and I'm not very good. But that doesn't keep me from sending Annabelle out with them, I stick a bow at the base of each braid and hope that covers up all my mistakes. =D

Jacob is getting married this weekend, actually on the 12th. We're excited and leaving on Friday for SLC, but I promise to return to blogging when I come back. Just know I'm reading along and enjoying every post and am impressed with your pretty daughter and your frenchbraiding skills.
Wow! GREAT braids. Dint think twice about sending out with those beautiful braids. I try with Brooklynne's hair, but it is really hard. I'm hoping with time Brooklynne's hair will thicken to her "big girl" hair and make it easier to braid??? That and MORE practice! You've inspired me....I need to practice more! :)
Those cookies and eggs look awesome! You are going to have to teach me the art of them both. I am also impressed at your french braiding for not knowing how before! It took me a long time to get it down!
By the way, the twist is just taking two strands, twisting them in the same direction and then twisting them together in the opposite direction. Make sense? If not I can show you...in exchange for cookie decorating and string egg lessons! (:

I think you did a fabulous job french braiding Alyssa's hair. Much better than I can do.
The braid looks good. I want to master the little girl hair style that is a combo of bed head and taking out a ponytail after way too long...that will be my daughter's signature do, haha!
Al looks so stoked with his basket! The clothes were cute too. I told mom to keep it simple and avoid collars! Too bad we can't have them all together to get some cute pics (like the one where Luke stood behind your kids looking like Teddy Roosevelt)!
Oh yeah, I LOVE those cookies and the string eggs! Why didn't you email back when I asked if you had good ideas??? I totally would have made those eggs. Maybe for Luke's bday.
Valerie, the bed head, elasticless memory formed pony tail is Chloe's signature look. It reminds me of you when you were a kid in that picture of you on the porch. Chloe reminds me of you at that age too so it is only appropriate.
The string eggs are not all that little kid friendly, Val. You just wrap yarn or string (I used crochet thread) around and around a ballon and then dip it in liquid starch, or sugar and water. Hang it to dry and stiffen up (couple days). Pop the balloon and remove. Wrapping the string was harder for the kids to do while holding the balloon, then I thought it would be.
