Last Year's Field Trips

The kids always ask me to chaperone their field trips and it was always an easy thing to say yes to before last year. Last year I knew it was going to make getting my school work done a challenge, but I did it anyway and I am glad I did. I probably ended up spending the weekend on schoolwork, but I don't remember that. I remember having a few minutes to be a decent mom again. Here are the trips we took.

This is Chloe's best school bud, and they were not in the same group, but they managed to keep finding each other throughout the day. 



Old World Wisconsin with Alex

Alex was really good at this old fashioned game where you have to run around and keep your hoop up by smacking it with a stick. He's not usually into sports but he took to this like an old pro. 


 
He was a little less accurate throwing this hoop with sticks, but he was good at catching it. 
 
I wanted to buy this bike! 
 

Sometimes I wonder why old people volunteer at places where kids go on field trips. This old man was so annoyed by the kids and could not have been any more cranky. He kept insulting the kids in German and then telling them what he had said. Here he is helping Alex to make a roof shingle.

Downtown K-Town with Alex

This trip is actually intended for the 3rd graders. They study local history and then spend a day downtown. The 4th grade teachers decided that since it was the end of the year, they would just take the day off and tag along. I did this trip with them last year as well and it is 8 hours of walking and exploring. You are not given an agenda. You can just roam wherever you like.
 
I only had 3 kids in my group so I bought them all donuts in the morning and then ice cream for the walk back to the school. 
 
We traveled with another group for part of the day, but eventually split up when the kids wanted different things for lunch.







Six Flags with Alyssa

Since Alyssa stays home, I took her to Six Flags one day while the other two were at school. I got her a couple Harley Quinn shirts. Alex's long-time obsession with Batman introduced Alyssa to Harley Quinn and her own obsession began. She is torn because suddenly Harley Quinn is super trendy. It sucks when your stuff gets trendy and you look like you are just jumping on the bandwagon, but it's also fun because then you can find cool stuff to buy.


 
Just as Alyssa and I were heading to the car, it started to pour so hard that we couldn't see. We couldn't figure out why the rain hurt so much until we got to the car and noticed giant chunks of hail all over the ground.  That was an exciting way to end the day.


 

Luau Night with Chloe  

The elementary school has family events once a month and Chloe always wants to go, but our nights are just as busy as our days so it doesn't happen very often. I promised her we could go to Bingo Night and then totally forgot about it, so she reminded me every 2 minutes about Luau Night.


 

So there it is. Evidence that I occasionally did my job last year. But don't ask for any evidence of home cooked meals. There was very little of that.
