Birds, Fish, Moose and My 3 Monkeys

Tuesday morning we packed up and left the cabin, after hot showers of course. We went back to the lodge for breakfast and then met up with the sillies back at camp.

They had spent the morning crafting with grandma, propelling rubberband powered airplanes in to the trees, and Alyssa had been hanging with the birds. I call Alyssa a bird nerd, but maybe bird whisperer is more polite? She had to do a report on bluebirds this year but her spongy little mind sucked in facts about all kinds of birds. She can walk around and identify birds and their bird calls. She decided to try to catch hummingbirds. They are so fast that I can barely catch a glimpse of them, let alone catch them, but she stood still and they were more than happy to land on her fingers while they ate. She was even gentle enough to slowly grab their feet to hold them still and then pet them. Luckily Grandpa Tony had his camera at the ready.

Alyssa was pretty decent at casting by the end of the trip, but she did manage to catch Grandma once and ruin her shirt. Oops!












We were planning for fish dinner on Wednesday so we did keep a few of the day's catches. They are actually going to drain this lake and kill all of them so don't feel too bad for the ones we snagged.

We spent Tuesday evening at camp, making tin foil dinners, banana boats for dessert, watching the space station and hanging out under the stars. We even saw a few shooting stars which was cool because I had only ever seen one in my whole life.

I have never been big on camping...something about NEEDING hot running water...but I do love when the kids camp. No toys or TV and yet they manage to entertain themselves and have a blast.
