A Visit From Auntie Em: Day 3

Seth was home on Friday so we planned to go play but after Six Flags on Thursday we got home and Emily found that Griffin had a temp of 102.2 so we decided to take it easy on Friday and maybe even get him to a clinic.  In the morning his temp was down and he was pretty drooly so Emily figured it was probably just new teeth and she had really hoped to see Chicago while she was here.  We didn't get on the road until 1:00 because of swimming lessons but we figured that would be a nice low traffic time of day to travel.  SO WRONG!

It took almost 3 hours to get downtown and in 7+ years I have NEVER seen so many people in Chicago.  

We let Emily decide what to see in Chicago and she chose to walk Michigan Ave and see Millennium Park since she has seen it so many times on the blog.  I think it is funny that whenever anyone in my family comes to town they can't get enough Chicago time and we fantasize about living in a high rise downtown. So far everyone in Seth's family has found Chicago interesting but none of them have seen the romance. Can you tell we grew up in different worlds?

Even though Emily did not want to move to Chicago anytime soon, we still had a good time looking around.  We finished our visit with dinner at The Grand Lux Cafe which was my favorite but now two times in a row they have been just okay.  Doesn't help that they have taken all my favorite dinner items off the menu.  I still have to give them some love for putting chocolate chip cookies on their dessert menu.  Nothing is better than ccc's but you hardly see them on dessert menus.  At Grand Lux they bring me a whole dozen of them, so I will probably still continue to go there.  Yum!

After dinner we continued to walk down Michigan and popped in to play at the Hershey store and get treats for the ride home.  Yes, I had already eaten my cookies.  So what!

Thankfully the ride home was only an hour, and we did come home with some fun memories and some pictures to document that Emily and Griffin have now seen Chicago.

The kids always want to splash in the fountains at Millennium Park but they don't love to walk around wet afterward so for once we brought swimsuits.  Griffin put one toe in and said no way.  Chloe mostly walked around in the water and occasionally kicked her foot.

And Alex, well he gave me something to take pictures of...(yes, he has my skin color and glows in the dark...sorry Al)

After enjoying a Grand Lux cookie baby man was messy and I love messy baby faces.

Emily was just about to clean him up but instead she grabbed this giant Hershey syrup piggy bank and luckily he opened his mouth so it looks like he was guzzling.
