School's Out Sleepover

Friday the kids had the day off of school for a teacher workday. I tried to think of a fun field trip but all they wanted to do was have a sleepover in the basement on Thursday night, which was actually fine with me since I have some kind of recurring stomach issue lately and I wasn't feeling too well. Seth was out of town all last week so they had already each had a chance to sleep with me, but on Thursday night we pulled the mattresses down to the basement and had a slumber party. I got two new board games, Monopoly Junior Party and Twister because Chloe begged for it. Monopoly (or Miniopolis as Chloe and Alex call it) has been a huge hit and we have played it several times a day. Twister, not so much.

Alex won game one but I think Chloe has won every game since then. I love that even she can play this game without needing an adult on her team to help her.

The kids also got to choose dinner and opted for Kids Cuisine, frozen dinners. Those gross $1.99 meals are their favorite special occasion treat. Fine with me though, because it was cheap and easy.

After food and games it was 10:00. We got a late start since we didn't get home from taekwondo until 7:45, but Chloe had picked out a movie, Dolphin Tale, so I decided that we would stay up and watch it. It was actually pretty good. Even I made it through the whole thing. I had a book handy just in case I needed to escape, but I didn't.

Notice Alex's nest made the trip downstairs for the night. There were 16 blankets just on him.

Then at 12:30 I finally got the little monkeys to sleep. Thankfully they slept in but Chloe still had a few cranky, tired moments the next day. On Friday we stayed home all day and played more Monopoly and just hung out. So relaxing!

We did have to venture out that evening to get Alex to a birthday party. While he partied, I took the girls to Charming Charlie. I keep hearing everyone rave about that place. I am not the purse, necklace, accessory type, but Alyssa walked in and gasped aloud. Even I thought they had some really cute stuff, but she was in heaven. She is still talking about how it is the best place ever. We tried on lots of fun stuff.

You probably can't tell but we finally cut Chloe's hair for the first time EVER. I have been trying to hang on to my last little head of baby curls for as long as I could but the ends were looking thin and shabby. She lost about 3 inches and she still has some curl but I bet one more haircut will officially end her curly days. Boo! :(

I was even nice enough to let the girls pick one thing and then took them to Cousins Subs to eat dinner and wait for Alex to be all partied out.

After much deliberating Alyssa decided on a scarf, which she has used in 750 different ways since Friday.

When we went to get Alex he had some new accessories to show off as well. The party was a boot camp theme and he came home with a camo hat and dog tags and told me it was the best party ever. What a blow to my party planning ego, but I am glad he had fun.

I can read while Seth watches TV, but I would never purposely put on a headset and distract myself while I was reading. When I asked Alyssa how she could read and listen to music at the same time she said, I use my ears for music and my eyes and my brain to read, and during the really good parts of the book the music completely disappears. Goofball!
