Mother's Day Weekend

Such a fun Mother's Day weekend!

Friday evening I headed up to Milwaukee for the Girls Camp Overnighter.  It was good to practice being away from the kids for a night so that I could prep to be away from them for 4 nights next month.  Still trying not to think about that yet though.

Luckily there were 4 other women from my ward there.  There are 3 of us going to camp from the ward and two women from my ward with Stake YW callings who will also be going, so I had lots of friends to chat with Friday night.  I also got to know the ladies who I will be camping with.  We are camping in levels, not in wards and I have been assigned to hang with the 3rd years.  I am kind of bummed that I won't be with my Beehives but I love the 3rd year girls from my ward and the other leaders assigned to third years were very easy to talk to so I am happy to know that I won't have to sit in silence all week long.

I wish I had taken more pictures of the campout but I forget to take pictures of anything that is not my children.  We stayed up late and ate LOTS of treats and acted so silly.  When we got there we saw that the bunk held 4 people on top and 4 on bottom, undivided.  I begged everyone to sleep up top with me in "the crib" but everyone ended up moving down to the bottom when bedtime came so we slept in the bottom half of the crib together.  I wonder if the bunks at camp will be this strange?  I made Kira pose in front of the beds so I could remember how funny they were.  Side note: Kira is our ward camp director and I have LOVED working with her.  We are on the phone lots lately and whenever we get together in person to talk camp we end up chatting until 2AM.  My favorite part of this calling has been hanging out with Kira more.

I quickly realized that Girls Camp is going to be WAY out of my comfort zone.  They had all kinds of dorky camp songs, games and dances and I am going to have to dig deep for some of them.  I love to make a fool of myself, but not on anyone else's terms.  I like to be fully responsible for my own foolishness. I am going to try very hard to play along, but I will not sing.  Sorry, can't do it.  But I will carry a camera around and take pictures of those who are better sports than I.  These are the 4 ladies from my ward who are camp bound with me.

On Friday I did get to bunk with my ward buddies and that was pretty fun.  The girls went to bed before midnight and the leaders stayed up.  Who'da thought? The ladies started to drop off one at a time and everyone was asleep by 2:30, except for me.  I stayed up and read until I could finally sleep at 4:15 and then was the first one up at 6:15.  I am going to be mighty tired if I keep that pattern up at camp.

On Saturday I got home and my kids were so happy to see me that Chloe immediately blabbed about my Mother's Day present.  She told me I got a cup.  Alyssa tried to cover her tracks by saying, "Why would we get her a cup for Mothers Day?", to which Chloe responded, "How else will she drink all her hot chocolate". With that hint I knew what I was getting so Seth decided not to wrap it and to gave it to me Saturday night.  And when I tried to get a picture of my gift, who jumped in the frame but the little blabbermouth herself.

Okay so you may be wondering why on earth I would get a coffee maker for Mother's Day.  You see, back in January I saw this cute thing at the store and for some reason I just wanted it.  Do you ever do that?  See something impractical that you don't need at all, but you just want it?  Yeah, well that is what happened.  I told Seth we could make cocoa and cider in it and of course he reminded me that we can do that without a coffee maker.  So I got it out of my head until I went to my friend Kennon's house and saw that she had this same coffee maker.  She is also a non-coffee drinking Mormon so of course I had to go home and tell Seth that she had the coffee maker and that they use it daily for cocoa and cider, and then I forgot about it again BUT apparently Seth remembered and started e-mailing back and forth with Kennon about this silly thing and ended up buying it for me.  So you may think it is weird, but isn't it sometimes fun to have something for no other reason than because you want it?  I think so.  It did come with a whole box of coffee samples, which I must admit I found very tempting.  Coffee is my...if I could change one thing about my religion...weakness, but don't worry I never cave, and the whole box is heading to Seth's coworkers tomorrow, unmolested.

The kids are loving my new toy.  They think it is magic.

Today I got my kid made presents, stuff they made at school, church, Activity Days... I also got to sleep in, but what was crazy was that everyone slept in so I got up at 8:30 with the rest of the family.  Somehow sleeping in feels sweeter when Seth is up doing the whole morning routine, but sleeping in is sleeping in so I guess I should just be happy.

Seth did not have church meetings today so he made eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast for breakfast and after church he got to work on Filet Mignon, stuffing and Mexican corn on the cob.  So in the end I was very spoiled and I am very thankful to have a mother, to be a mother, and to have so many people who encourage and support me as a mother.

And since it was Mother's Day we needed the annual proof that I exist pics.  I still wish I were more photogenic, but I am just happy that I only have one chin in these shots.  I love these babies!!!
