First off, in case you are wondering, I did send the kids to school today. I mentioned it in the comments from the last post, but in case you are not a comment stalker, I will say it again. I agonized all night about what to do. Seth said the roads were fine in our area and that they could go, but that he knew I probably wouldn't send them.
I flip flopped until the minute we walked out the door. Alyssa was already out sick on Monday. Alex was out sick last Wednesday. I took them out for two weeks at Thanksgiving and I am sure I will pull them out again for our Spring trip to Wisconsin Dells. They have missed enough school, but they told us anyone who stayed home today would be excused, so I had a green light. I felt like I should send them, but wanted to keep them home, so I purposely set the alarm for later than usual. Then it would be easier to make the decision to skip, or at least be the fun mom and take them to McDonald's and then drop them off an hour late (tardies were also being excused). But for once in their lives they got ready very quickly and since they were sitting there all bundled up and ready to go, I sent them, on time. Then I was sad. Then my friend, LeShel posted about keeping her kids home today and I cried real tears because I sent my kids out into the snow covered world.
They came home to report that a lot of kids were absent, but more than half were there, so I am feeling better about it now. Me and Chloe may have killed a few hours and a few dollars at Target to cheer ourselves up. I am sidetracking all over heck and back, but here is a funny observation about Target. This month I have noticed that I have not spent as much money (remember I am trying to pay attention to stuff like that). I was wondering why, when it occurred to me that it is because we haven't been to piano lessons (snowy roads and dead car battery to blame for missed lessons). Sure piano lessons are only $10 a week, but our piano teacher lives across the street from Target. Since we have 30 minutes to spend, we usually head over to Target, and unfortunately spend more than just our 30 minutes while we are there. I guess I better start going to Petsmart instead while Alyssa is at piano.
And now to the point.
The other day Chloe came out of her room like this...
Remember JoJo's Circus? Alyssa loved JoJo when she was Chloe's age. Chloe has no idea who JoJo is since she is no longer on the air, and kept insisting that it was a painting costume and that she needed to paint. I showed her old pictures of Alyssa and explained that it was Alyssa's Halloween costume when she was 3. I don't know why we still have it since I was sure I gave all our old costumes to Goodwill, but it did take me back when she came out in it.
So here we are on Halloween 2005, with our original JoJo.
And while we are back in time, here is Alex as Squirt the turtle (from Nemo). Even though he was just days away from turning 1, this was his first Halloween. I have often said that during the first year of life, my friend LeShel's little boy looked like Alex to me. Seth thought so too. I loved looking at him in church because I could see Alex. Do any of you locals see the resemblance?
Don't feed the animals! Valerie and Kristen, do you remember when we were in line at the Sears Tower and some man was talking to baby Alex, so Seth gave the guy cheerios to offer to Alex? Like it was a petting zoo. That was so funny! For some reason this picture reminded me of that. I told you my thoughts are all over the place today.
I don't think the kids are the only ones who look younger in this picture.
I am cracking up at this family shot. I am talking, Seth and Alyssa aren't looking, and Alex's head is cut off. It is the only group shot we have. Nice!
And that was our JoJo inspired flashback. JoJo was actually the theme for Alyssa'a 4th birthday as well, but I won't make you look at that today. Probably someday though.

Samm loved JoJo's circus too! I don't even remember what she was for Halloween when she was 3 though. How sad. I'll have to look back in my pictures.
I can definitely see the resemblance of Alex and Matthias. Cfrazy. I must say though when I was privileged to teach Alex's primary class I just loved that little guy and it makes me so happy that mine kind of looks like him when he was younger.
I fretted the entire day about the kids missing school. Right up until they'd normally get home from school, then the pressure was off and I moved on. I hope I moved on. At least until someone makes some comment that I take WAY too personal.

I love that costume! Very cute. I totally get the Target thing. It's easy to spend a few extra bucks there. I LOVE their Rice Krispy Treat at the snack bar. Mmmmm...I may need to go to Target for a Diet Pepsi and Ric Krispy Treat! :)

LeShel, I am so glad you see the resemblance, and that Cheryl saw it too. Lately when I see Matthias I see him morphing into Nic, but for that first year at least I always saw Alex. They are both adorable, if I do say so myself. Sorry to hear that you agonized over the whole school thing too. It sounds like a lot of kids went and a lot stayed home, so I am guessing that means that either choice was okay and that we should not lose any more sleep over it, right? I am sorry to hear that another mom agonizes about things the way that I do, but comforted to know that someone relates. Next time they really just need to tell me what to do.
Wish we had a Target so I could feel your pain (although I was in SLC Sat. and spent more than my share of time in Target). Here, it's Wal Mart. Our usual Saturday routine is breakfast at IHOP, then to WM to stock up. There seems to be a barrier at the doors that won't let you out until you have spent at least $100! And while most of the stuff is necessary, there's a lot of fluff in those baskets!
If it makes you feel better, I sent my kids to school too. Alissa was out sick Mon. and Tues. and she was already stressed about missing out on her education that I couldnt bear to make her miss another day. Plus...I really needed the break. Im not one of those nice Mom's who just want the kids to be home. (: Madi immediatly said..."that looks like Matthias' when she saw the picture, before we even read that thats what you were thinking so it must be true. I have no idea who JoJo is, but the costumes both were really cute!

Secondly, that picture of Alex looked like Luke to me. I obviously don't know who Matthias is so that's probably part of it, but it really resembled Luke to me.
It's so nice to be able to see all of them. I wish I could feel your pain with Target again. Actually, when we visited California I spent a good deal of money there and Michael was happy when I was home and all the stores closed early (not that there's anything good to buy out here anyways). We did save quite a bit of money that first month I was back though.
Anyways, glad I can comment now. I used to be able to see the blog (sometimes) but it wouldn't let me comment.

Ha, I totally remember Jojo. A friend of mine threw a JoJo- themed party and spent over a $1000 on it. Insane! I can see how Matthias and Alex look alike as babies, but I've only seen Baby Al in pictures.
When I saw that family picture I first thought was who's that blonde with Seth's family...lol.
I remember that day when Luke offered the guy Cheerios for his little "pet." I also remember that guy taking pics of Al and us thinking that was really weird too.
This post gave me a random thought of my own...remember Chip Aways???
Valerie, I DO remember Chip Aways. I think we are the only two people who do. I loved those. It is too bad we couldn't single handedly keep them in business. We tried!
