I did decide on Monday that I wanted to take a picture a day so that if I never got around to blogging, I would at least have some way to remember the days that had passed.
As luck would have it, this afternoon the sky turned unnaturally dark, considering the bright sunny day we'd been having. I flashed back to a year ago, this same Friday, when we saw a similar sky, ended up trapped in a Walmart dressing room, and nearly landed ourselves in Oz. I am now one year and one tornado wiser, so this time I gathered my chicks in to the house, and finally landed back in Blogland.
Here is what we have been up to so far...
Saturday June 12
We headed out to the Harbor Market, or Farmer's Market if you'd rather. If you have a Farmer's Market, go check it out. This time we had lunch and came home with rhubarb (so I could make this jam), snap peas and swiss chard (for Seth because you know how I feel about veggies), popcorn (chocolate covered cherry, and cheese) and a brick of Wisconsin cheese. There are lots of fun treats and local vendors to support, but we have also gone and walked around tasting the samples, and come home empty handed. So if it's not cheap, it's free, and you can't beat that.
Seth and I had hungarian sausages in a hollowed out hard roll. I am not a sausage/brat person but I have now found two of them that I like. That'll happen if you live in WI long enough.
We had our friend's the Gowans' over for dinner after church. We don't get to see them as often as we'd like because they live about an hour away and Amy works weekends. We are always happy when we have a chance to hang out. I didn't manage to get a picture though. I didn't make my one picture a day rule until Monday. We will just have to hang out again so I can get it on film.
Monday June 14
It was a bit cold and rainy, so we went to the Library. We picked up our summer reading charts and event calendars. We played on the computers, and then went in to the ready to read room which currently has a beach theme. We go to the library every week because again...it is free, and amazingly enough my kids never get tired of it.
No pictures of Alyssa at the library because she made a friend and I thought I would look creepy if I starting taking pictures of a stranger.
We came home and made cookies. I bought this playdough cookie dough months ago from a girl in Primary (fund raiser). We had fun making stuff out of the dough but it all spread WAY more than we expected it to when cooked. I think we should always use cookie dough instead of playdough though. Much more fun, and yummy.

On Tuesday, Alex and Alyssa started remedial swimming. Same swim suits as last year, same level. Chloe is old enough this year to know that she is being left out, and not quite old enough to understand what "you have to be 4" means. I eased her hurt with a big bag of Doritos and a Slush Puppie while we watched the kids from the bleachers.
We met up with Jen and her girls at the downtown splash pad. We brought a picnic lunch and let the kids run wild. More free fun! When I started to get sunburned, we headed home, taking Annie and Mimi with us for a couple hours. And in case we hadn't seen enough of each other, we met up that evening to pick strawberries, followed by ice cream at Culver's.
Splash pad pictures are a little lame because I snapped them when the water was turned off for a minute.
The three little strawberries up front are from our Topsy Turvy. It yields a few berries a day, so far.
A morning filled with 10 bags of frozen strawberries, 18 cups of strawberry jam, and about 1000 calories of Nutella per person. Those strawberries were so juicy and with the Nutella on top...straight to heaven. So worth the morning after muffin top. Then we were off to swimming lessons again. Alyssa made it all the way across the pool swimming the back stroke...YAY! She has to learn to swim freestyle across the pool before she can advance to level 2. We are hoping it will happen by the end of this summer? This time I kept Chloe busy by painting her fingers and toes, and then kept her still by reminding her she had to let her piggies dry.
That's today. And before today turned dark and gloomy, it was hot and sunny, and payday...so we finally got out to get a few summer necessities. Shovels, sand pails, sunglasses, and summer clothes. Poor Alyssa is still wearing size 4 shorts, for 4 years in a row. We tried on 8's, then 7's, then 6's and then even 5's and they all fell off. I bought one pair of 5's but it looks like she will spend one more summer in her own hand me down size 4 shorts. They are starting to look a little tired but I am NOT buying anymore size 4 clothing for my almost 8 year old daughter, especially when her 2 year old sister is in size 3. We got a few skirts instead. All Alex wanted was a pair of shorts and two Batman shirts. Boys are so easy. And since we were at the Outlet Mall we had to stop for a Shaved Ice.

Oh so fun! I really love summer time. And I really love those sunglasses that Alex chose.
The snow cones look delicious and I loved Alex's shark sunglasses.
Wisconsin looks wonderful to me.
I love summer. It's the only time I truly feel sorry for men who almost never have an option to have their summer freedom without work.
We stay at home Mom's are so lucky to have our summers free with our children.

I heart summer in Wisconsin. I've never had a summer in Wisconsin, but I just know down deep in my bones, that I love it. Just from your post. I don't say that about summer in my hot, desert, dry, parched town. But summer in Wisconsin I could sink my teeth into.
By the way, that last comment was me, Erin, or am I Prudy? Maybe a little of both.
Love your post, but it does make me a little jealous because Kaden is still in school. His last day is July 8th.... There are SO many things I want to do, but my major "Mommy Guilt" kicks in. It makes me sad to do the BIG things without him-so, for now, we are doing our small things (parks, sprinklers, backyard, walks....). We also pack as much fun into the weekends as possible. :)
I love our Farmer's Market too. I thinking I'd be thrilled (and probably 20 pounds heavier) in Wisconsin because I LOVE sausage AND Brats! Mmmmmm....
Shaved ice is our latest obession (just got some tonight)! I found the best little place neat by called Purple Penguin.
And, Alex's glasses are too cute!

I thrive on schedules so I love reading about how you hate them. I try to be that way sometimes.

Oh- how much, if you don't mind my asking, are the swimming lessons you have the kids in?
I love the idea...take a picture everyday and then you can blog about your days in one. You guys stay busy that is for sure. Most days you can find me sitting on the couch doing nothing. Not something worth blogging about.
I love the events that summer has brought. I have no idea where the splash pad is though. I'm going to need some teaching on that one. I know my kids will love it. Yummy Strawberry jam!! I remember getting some of that goodness last year when I popped a baby out. Who can forget the storm last summer. crazy
Summers in Wisconsin look like so much fun. I love that Doritos always make Chloe happy. I love all of your Summer activities that you've been up to. How fun to be a kid at your house.
Leslie, I agree. I feel bad for Seth during the summer too, but I go to bed last and get up first the rest of the year, so I don't feel too guilty about enjoying three months "off".
Erin, Summer here is a blast, but I would definitely trade you winters.
Katie, Still in school until July? Wow! Are you on year round? That wouldn't be too bad in Vegas where you can play all year long. Here, if they tried to take even a minute of my summer away I would come unglued. We only have 3 months of good weather.
Cheryl, our swim lessons are $42 per kid, and that is for 6 lessons. There is a $25 new student fee the first time you sign up as well. They have another session in July. I can e-mail you the sign up info if you want.
Kory, I read your blog and you do lots of fun stuff, and manage to look picture worthy in a bathing suit. So jealous!
LeShel, let me know when you get back. We will all have to go to the splash pad together. I would love to hang out this summer. I feel so isolated from the ward nucleus way out here in my neck of the woods.
Yup, we are year around, but we are switching back to 9-Month next year! :)
Busy week. Glad we could spend at least one day of it with you guys. Also glad we found that splash park. We'll definitely have to make another trip over here this summer since it looks like it's actually going to be a hot one this year.
