Every summer I temporarily change my staple food from chocolate to strawberries...with a little chocolate on the side.
I love when strawberries are in season. We buy a case a day as soon as they hit the store shelves.
Then when the strawberry farm opens...a picking we go. We bought pre-picked baskets last weekend. They wouldn't let us pick because the storms left everything flooded. We made lots and lots of jam.
Then yesterday we went with 2 other families and picked 3 1/2 more baskets. So today, it was more jam making! And I froze lots of strawberries to eat on crepes all year round. I think I will go get some now and slather them in Nutella.
I guess strawberries are just as bad as cookies when I dump them in chocolate or add them to big fat pieces of warm bread and butter. Naw...they're healthy. I am sticking with that.
Here are the kiddos being put to work.
Mimi, who skipped around with an empty basket

Alyssa, who actually got half a basket

Alex, and his 7 berries

Annie, who actually filled her entire basket and asked the strawberry farmers for a job.

Chloe: No one gave me a basket so I will just use my tummy!

John taking a taste.

Sara, who really didn't want me to take a picture.

The kids posing with our pickings.

Alright I have to go get those strawberries and a jar of Nutella now!

Wow! Go red. I'm impressed with your energy! (Is Cloe always smiling?!)
So fun. I wonder if there is a place around here that lets you pick your own like that?? As always, the pic of Chooch makes me want to shrink her down and carry her around in my pocket!!
We used to go strawberry picking every summer when I was little and it was so much fun. Of course the freezer jam sessions always followed for days. Fresh berries of any kind are my favorite!
Hi Julie,
We get those things around here also, except here they start growing in January and stop about now. Sometimes they get so bad you just must pluck them out like weeds and throw them away. Hope you don't have that problem.
Take care,
Dad
Cute kids!!
Strawberries are good, but blackberries or raspberries are better. I went to check on my one little strawberry plant yesterday only to find Malachi had eaten all of the strawberries off it, even the green ones. Oh well, Shelly already made the freezer jam and I wont eat any other kind.
So glad we did this! We now have 46 jars to keep us loaded on strawberry jam for the next or 2 or 3. Thanks for inviting us!
