Field Trippin' With Grandpa Bob

On Monday the kids were supposed to go back to school, but I decided that sounded like a lame way to spend their last day with grandpa so we decided on a field trip instead.

I have been wanting to go back to the Museum of Science and Industry ever since our first visit in January. I knew Seth would enjoy it and the kids loved it last time.

Since the museums opening and closing times coincide with rush hour, we decided to stay off the interstate and just drive along Lake Michigan the whole way. So many mansions, so many gorgeous neighborhoods.

We arrived to find that other than a few field trip groups, we had the place to ourselves. It was packed last time we went so it was really nice to just jump in and enjoy each exhibit for as long as we wanted.

My pictures are basically awful, but Seth has told me that I am not allowed to talk about my camera anymore, so I won't. I may, however, throw it off a bridge.

This Grinch cake makes all of my recent cake attempts look absurd. Sadly though, if you look closely you might see that the sleigh slid and knocked off Mr. Grinch's head. Ouch. Still an awesome display.

Last time the line was too long for the mine tour so this exhibit was a first for all of us. We rode down a mine shaft and leanred how to mine for coal. Here we are in the pitch dark riding the mine train.

Last time we also skipped the arcade in the toy inventors area because I didn't want to spend a million dollars in there. This time the kids wandered in and we found out that it is FREE, or shall we say included?

There were Christmas trees representing 70 different countries. None of them said America, but we are guessing this big guy was our tree.

In this test, you were supposed to relax your mind to defeat your opponent. Bob's stress levels were a flat line=no stress...we think he was asleep? Seth's were spiking all over the place. I have always thought Seth was pretty laid back. I guess that will show you what a busy year this has been for him, or maybe a decade with me is just catching up to him. Me and Alex should have gone head to head. No one can stress out like me and my boy. He nearly had a panic attack on the third floor because you could see down to the other levels. He clung to my hand or scaled along the side of the wall like he was out on a ledge.

And just a few parting Grandpa Bob shots. Poor Grandpa couldn't sit down for a single minute without being jumped on. Even when he was sound asleep Alyssa used him for a reading chair.

And Chloe ran and jumped on him every 20 seconds for a cuddle.

Grandpa Bob probably went home beat up and worn out, but we know he was loving every minute of it. He loves his grandbabies and they can definitely tell.

Tuesday morning took Grandpa back to Salt Lake, and some sad kiddos back to school. But we all have a whole pocket full of memories we didn't have before. Thanks for coming to play Grandpa Bob.
