I have always been a little bit behind the times when it comes to technological advancements.
I am absolutely serious when I tell you that we had a rotary dial phone in my childhood home until I was in high school. In the 90's! And our TV's generally looked like we borrowed them from the Flinstones. And a computer? Forget it. My parents didn't have a computer until like last Thursday.
It is no surprise that as an adult I have done no better in keeping up with the Jetsons, mostly because I just don't care to.
Well recently we went to a wedding for one of Seth's coworkers and some of the guys were ripping on some way less than cool guy from the office who still carries a, gasp in horror, flip phone. Oh no, I wonder if he still has a land line too. Since I am also less than cool, I also still have a land line, and yep, a flip phone. The same pink Motorola Razor that I have had since Alex was about 1, and it has never even occurred to me to be embarrassed about it. I have been eligible for several upgrades but my phone still works so why bother? Seth on the other hand, takes his upgrades regularly, but even his phone is just a phone.
He has looked many times at the iPhone and I have said no sir every time.We do not need to be that connected. We do not need a computer and games and blah blah blah with us all the time. I am bugged on a daily basis by people who can not get their phones out of their hands. I don't even want a lap top because it would make it way too easy to be way too lazy so why on earth do I want a mini computer with me everywhere I go?
Seth's coworkers apparently didn't realize that we were perfectly happy over here in the stone age so they found us a deal for existing AT&T customers for a smartphone (Samsung Infuse) for $20, and the same monthly payment that we have now. Seth came home with the puppy dog eyes yesterday and told me all about it. I told him to get what he wanted, but that I didn't need one.
So today I was sitting in Taekwondo with Alex, texting back and forth with my sister when suddenly my phone said No Service, and then Unregistered SIM card. Took me all of about no seconds to figure out that Seth was off at the AT&T store, moving me out of my cozy cottage in Bedrock.
I must admit that for a good hour I was thoroughly amazed with the thing. AMAZED, like I imagine people were when we landed on the moon. So many things going on on that phone. I have never even had an mp3 player, or anything with a touchscreen, and to send a text with an actual keyboard...heaven! I even responded to an e-mail just so I would have a reason to get online. And then I played a few levels of Angry Birds just because I was the only one in the world who hadn't yet. I am now mostly over it, and hope to heck it never fuses with my right hand, and I will miss my trusty pink flip phone. It took one of my favorite pictures ever of Chloe at 8 months old and it has been my wallpaper ever since.
I thought that as long as I could hold on to that phone it meant that my baby wasn't too far removed from being a baby but alas, the times they are a changin'.
*Does the title of this post make any sense to you, or do you think I have lost my mind?
P.S. The fancy phone does not ensure that I will answer anymore than I did before. In fact I am thinking of putting this song on my voicemail just so everyone knows I still hate the phone.

I will have to get you the details because you carry the same raggedy phones around almost as long as I do. I missed my first call because I didn't know how to answer it. I kept clicking the phone icon, but apparently you have to slide the icon. Seth taught me to answer and then he called us on the video chat app, which the kids thought was amazing. Angry birds also finally took flight in our house but they have now been grounded for starting a sharing war with my children.
This made me laugh because my phone in my room in high school (in the 90's) was rotary. Our tv was a really old fashioned one too until I graduated... and the first computer in my families home was the one I bought when I was twenty. 1997.
I always tell Doug not to get me a fancy phone too. I don't need to pay extra for internet on my phone or all those other fancy things... but I do enjoy using his for those. :)
But a few years ago he did upgrade me from my flip phone and I have to say I MISS my flip phone. Oh well.
And I do love angry birds. That is addicting.
I have never played Angry Birds so you beat me in that department. I also don't have a smart phone...what a second...
I don't have an iphone either, although I would love one if it wouldn't mean we'd have to sell a car to afford them. =) I would mostly want one to consolidate my ipod and my cell phone so I would have one less thing to carry around with me. I wouldn't even need or necessarily want the internet. Right now I have an old blackberry, but I have the internet disabled on it. I only us it because I'm still on my parents family plan and my dad chooses phones that are terrible (like they don't even work!!) and I'm not eligible for an upgrade right now. All I want is a phone that works. I do love some of the games on my ipod, but I don't need internet for those, and they come in handy while I'm waiting at the dentists office for Emma etc. But I hate how the world wants us to feel inferior or embarrassed if we don't have everything cutting edge. So stay strong and don't be embarrassed! =)

I have never played angry birds and refuse to either. I hate technology and avoid it like the plague. I do have a lap top and instead of an iphone I settled for a blackberry. and I NEVER answer it. That is why I wanted it, so I could just email and avoid more calls than ever before. It's perfect for my phone phobia.
Well, though my phone does flip open to a keyboard, I don't have to flip it open to answer it. But I don't have a smart phone either. But that's okay, because I was born in the dark ages and nobody expects me to be technical savy.
However, my boss does have an IPhone so I actually have had to learn how to use one. I love that I can update his calendar on my computer at work and then when he calls me and asks me about an event, I just tell him to look in his phone ... I think that's my favorite thing about it. I used to have to update his personal calendar manually.
And I have never played Angry Birds. I had never even heard of it until they were talking about it on a radio talk show on my way to work the other day. So I guess I'm still in the dark ages. Probably just as well. I get addicted to games really easy.

I just barely upgraded my phone last month and guess what...it's a flip phone! Yep, they are still making them and no I am not embarrassed at all to have it! I don't think Josh would be able to live without his iphone anymore, but I am perfectly content with my little blackberry.
Love it! Tony has an Iphone--it was great while we were traveling to be able to get online in the middle of nowhere and look for hotels. Lemme tell you, you don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere Nebraska with no idea where the next hotel is or if they have rooms! Heading out to Cleveland, we drove til we dropped the first night, then decided to stay in Sidney, NE. I googled local hotels, and--surprise!! Most (at least the "nicer" ones) were totally sold out! And so--I was finally able to find something like America's Best Inn and Suites with rooms available. Fairly reasonable priced. Thank goodness we had a map app to find it though! Pulling into a strange town after 11 pm and trying to find a place to stay that's not totally scary is an experience! And BTW--Tony's Iphone was on MY upgrade! And a question--if I text you will you answer??
We still have the old style cell phones too, but they slide up instead of flip. No data plan or anything. Once you convert...you cant go back!! I have also never played angry birds. What is the rage about that all about? I thought we were the last ones on the planet to get any of that new techie stuff. Sounds pretty common actually. We will all be converted soon, because we wont have a choice, that will be the only offer.

Ann, I do answer texts, it just takes me days sometimes since I don't always have a phone on me, but at least now it won't take me seven hours to type my message.

I have no idea what angry birds is. I have my rocking flip phone but it's starting to act strange. Kjel would love me to get a "real" phone. He usually wins so we'll see.
LeShel, The deal we got was for AT&T customers through Discover Card so maybe you could look into it...? Are you with AT&T? My kids are in love with my phone. It even has Netflix on it and they are overwhelemd with all the lazy making media right at their finger tips.
Technology is hard for us oldies!! My kids can use the ipad better than I can. I prefer my flip phone too!
