Jen had never been to the Jerry Smith Pumpkin Farm and my kids think it is hilarious, so we decided to take her over to experience it. The woman who runs the place paints several pumpkins a year to look like character's heads. Every year there are new displays and it is fun to see what she comes up with. Tuesday as we walked in, Jen called the first display creepy. I thought, I guess you can't please everyone, until she added that the Flinstones were headless. I looked up and found all kinds of headless characters. Probably only half the place was painted and ready to go. Poor Chloe kept asking where Dora's head was, and she even asked me again this morning. Oh well, it is free to get in and we had the whole place to ourselves. Plus, it is always fun to take pumpkin pictures. However, since it was hot, and bright, and windy, the girls were squinting and refusing to look up at the cameras. Even bribing them with goodies didn't help, but we still bought the goodies, for the sake of the girls (wink).
Let's have a look at the Smith Pumpkin Farm, past and present. I might as well incorporate a flashback into this post, since it is Friday, and I am slacking on my theme posts lately.
Here we are in 2006, with my mom (Jeff was there, but not in these pictures). I think I am whiter than that ghost.

We tried to get Chloe to pose behind headless Lucy, but I think it creeped her out.
I need to get my witch and my ghost over there to stick their faces in and complete the picture.
Of course we couldn't get both girls to look at the same time.

*Typing this quick post was far more time consuming than it should have been. Alyssa called from school to say she left her lunch on the counter. I ran her lunch to the office, where Alex was lining up for his field trip. He saw me and smiled and waved, and told the boy next to him that I was his mom and that Chloe was his little sister and "the meanest baby in the whole world". I got home to finish typing and there the phone went again. Now it was the office telling me to go pick Alex up at the Farmer's Market. Alex poked his finger in to his ear last night and was crying for a couple hours about it, so I thought it might be hurting again. When I got there the teacher said he looked a bit tired but mostly kept saying that he missed his mom. I asked if his ear hurt and he said not really. Apparently he saw me in the office, and after that he couldn't stop saying, "I want my mom". So now he is home, playing hooky. This all day Kindergarten thing always has him tired and clingy by the end of the week.
Post Edit: Alex is now running a temperature and he is feeling very sluggish.

Sorry about Alex. I hope he is feeling better. I love his meanest baby in the world comment. It's actually quite cute. I also love his long curly locks in the pumpkin picture.
Makinzee, I agree that we should cram as much Fall goodness in as we can. Sure, you will all get sick of the redundancy of my blog, but the season is gone too soon and then we have to wait a whole year to do it again. Might as well get it all out of our system.
LeShel, Definitely come tag along! There are too many of us shy girls out there that need to stop being hermits. Jen isn't afraid of the phone thankfully, or I'd be home alone all the time. I am still thinking game night needs to happen soon too, but I need to quit thinking about it and do something about it.
Despite the headless beings, Violet and I still had a lot of fun. It was nice to not have to compete with crowds, so it was probably good that the displays weren't done. Oh my goodness, that picture of Alex at 3 looks just like Chloe. How is that possible? I swear I see Alyssa in Chloe most of the time, but Alex with those blonde curls is totally Chloe's twin. It's nice to see that you have a little family tradition by going to Jerry's each year. Sorry I had to spoil it by making you go with me without your big kids.
P.S. I'm sorry to hear that Alex was sick today. I was, too. I had to lay down most of the day feeling like I ran a marathon all over my body. Even my fingernails ached. I had a fever, too. School germs suck:(
Jen, Sorry you were sick too. I actually had my own health issues today and ended up taking a nap with Alex and Chloe and leaving Alyssa to fend for herself this afternoon.
I knew someone would say that Alex looked like Chloe, but I still don't think he does. I think it is just the matching blonde curls and pale skin. Their features are very different. A lot of the locals who remember Alex from when he was that age, swear that Chloe looks like him. I don't see it? It is always fun to ask people who my kids look like, because I get every answer in the book.
